I am the single mother of a severely autistic son named Nicky. I am his everything to him and he is everything to me. We are working drug free using the Floor Time method as are main therapy option.
What issues would you like to see discussed?
I mentioned that I was not using meds with on Nicky and it does not seem to be a very popular method among the general population. I want Nick to experience his environment and hopefully acclimate to it without the help of meds. Of course we get the dirty looks when he starts to stim in public or when he melts down ect. My son and I have a right to go to the grocery store or the doctors office without being approached or scoured by others. I had to take Nick into the ER once for stitches and the ER Doc actually told me that I was making a big mistake not medicating him. I was offended and constant feedback like this has made it hard for me to even want to take my son out in public. I'm worried that someday he will know people are treating him/us differently. I'm not sure how to deal with this.
